Three rocky peaks rise from the Namhangang at Dodamsambong, with a small pavilion tucked against the largest. You can take in the whole scene from the riverfront, making this one of Danyang's most approachable landscape stops. The interest lies in the relationship between the rocks, water, and surrounding hills rather than in climbing the peaks themselves. Nearby Seongmun adds a different view: a natural stone arch reached by steps and an uphill path. Treat the two experiences separately when planning. The lower riverfront suits a short scenic pause, while Seongmun adds a climb and a return descent. Being close together does not make the entire visit a level walk. For drivers, use the Dodamsambong parking area as the destination and continue on foot to the riverside. From Danyang Station or the town center, check the bus or taxi connection in both directions. This is a distinct stop from the town's central riverside promenade, so allow for the transfer rather than assuming every attraction along the river joins into one short walking route.

Start where the three rocks separate clearly in your view. Then move along the designated riverfront space and notice how their outlines overlap or pull apart. A few steps can reveal more of the pavilion or change the relationship between the taller central rock and its smaller neighbors. The central peak is known as Janggunbong, and the pavilion beside it is Samdojeong. Its tiled roof and red posts add a small human-made element to the limestone formation. Look from the bank, using binoculars or a modest zoom if you want more detail. An exposed patch of riverbed at low water does not create a visitor route to the rocks. Water level and light affect the scene. More of the rock bases may show at one time than another, and reflections can disappear with a breeze. Hazy hills, bright water, or a dark outline against cloud each give the same landforms a different emphasis. For children, finding all three peaks and comparing their sizes is an easy starting point. Add the pavilion, a tree on the rock, or the village across the river as smaller things to notice. Choose a stable place to stand before taking photographs, and distinguish the pedestrian viewing space from nearby vehicle lanes.

Follow the signs toward Seongmun when you are ready for the uphill section. The tourism corporation describes an approach of roughly 300 meters climbing toward the viewpoint, with steps along the way. Distance alone understates the effort, so include pauses and the descent in your plan. Seongmun means “stone gate,” but this is a natural limestone arch rather than a gateway built from blocks. The opening frames the river and landscape beyond, changing the view from a broad panorama into a scene seen through rock. Its irregular surface and surrounding vegetation are part of the appeal. Geographical research identifies it as a natural bridge left after the collapse of an underground space. That is a useful contrast with the three exposed rock masses in the river below: both belong to the area's limestone landscape, but they present very different forms.

Higher viewpoints help you place Dodamsambong within the wider river bend, roads, and hills. Stay within the marked viewing space even when branches partly interrupt the view. At the arch, allow other visitors time to look through the opening rather than occupying the narrow area for a prolonged photo session. If stairs are difficult, part of a group can remain by the river while others make the climb. Agree on a precise meeting place beforehand. After rain, snow, or freezing weather, shaded steps may be slippery; choosing only the lower viewpoint can be the sensible option. Begin the uphill walk with enough daylight to return comfortably.

A statue of Jeong Do-jeon recalls the statesman traditionally associated with this landscape and with the pen name Sambong. The area has also attracted writers and painters, giving Dodamsambong a cultural history alongside its geology. The Sambong Story Hall introduces those associations and other Danyang landmarks. Choose the hall if you want more context or an indoor pause. Its operator lists separate opening hours and an admission charge, so an early riverfront visit does not necessarily include the exhibition. Check its current arrangements if you are relying on it as a rainy-day alternative. The stories are a useful way to understand how people have valued the place, while the rocks reveal a much longer natural history. With children, you might compare the scene they have just observed with its names and artistic representations. There is no need to turn the stop into a test of historical dates. Boat trips offer another possible perspective, but make that a separate choice from the shore visit. Different boats can have different routes, durations, and boarding procedures. Confirm the actual service and return time before buying, especially when you have a bus or train to catch later. The tourism corporation's notices show that river level can shorten a cruise route and passenger numbers can affect departures. Use current operator information for your date rather than carrying a temporary timetable forward as a permanent schedule. A boat ride can add variety, but the riverfront already provides a clear view of the three peaks.

After Seongmun, return to the lower riverfront for another look. Having seen more of the surrounding terrain, it is easier to understand how the three rocks sit within the river rather than treating them as an isolated landmark. In still conditions, their reflections double the forms; when the water moves, the contrast between the rock and surface becomes the focus. Parking, the Story Hall, and boat rides are separate costs. The tourism corporation's parking guide checked October 12, 2026 lists paid parking with vehicle categories and specific concessions. Check the category that applies to your vehicle instead of assuming a general sightseeing stop includes every service. From here, lunch in Danyang town makes a straightforward next stage. Mancheonha Skywalk and the Danyanggang Jando cliffside walkway can also fit into a wider trip, but each adds its own access and walking time. If you have already climbed to Seongmun, choose the next activity with that effort in mind. For a gentler day, keep Dodamsambong to the riverfront and save your longer walk for the Jando. For a more focused visit here, combine the bank, Seongmun, and the Story Hall, then finish with a meal instead of another viewpoint. The site gives you room to adjust the amount of walking without losing the main landscape.
