Seoul’s department stores can be destinations in their own right, and The Hyundai Seoul makes the case particularly well. An indoor garden, sweeping balconies, Korean fashion labels, and a substantial food hall give you plenty to explore without a shopping list. Nearby IFC Mall adds familiar brands, restaurants, and an easier-to-grasp three-level layout. Together, they make a satisfying indoor afternoon in Yeouido, especially when rain interrupts your outdoor plans. The key is to treat them as two places with different strengths. The Hyundai Seoul is a department store in the Parc.1 development; IFC Mall belongs to the neighboring IFC complex. They share convenient underground access from Yeouido Station, but their shops, floor labels, and opening calendars are separate. Put the full venue name into your map or meeting message.

Which One Should You Prioritize?

Choose The Hyundai Seoul if you’re interested in retail design, Korean labels, a small design-led gift, or seeing why a department store attracts visitors who aren’t planning a major purchase. Its open interior and fifth-floor garden are as much a part of the outing as the counters and boutiques. Choose IFC Mall if you have a particular mainstream brand in mind, want to compare several clothing stores, or would like shopping followed by dinner and a movie. The English-language directory is useful for finding a store before you arrive. There’s no need to visit every level of both buildings. With two hours, focus on one place and a food stop. With half a day, pick two or three interests at The Hyundai Seoul, then head to IFC for a meal or another store. Those are suggested time budgets, not fixed tours: a popular pop-up or exhibition can absorb much of the afternoon on its own.

Take Line 5 or 9 to Yeouido Station and follow the signs near Exit 3 before heading aboveground. IFC’s official directions describe a 320-meter underground connection with moving walkways leading to its L2 level. Hyundai’s directions give an approximately 500-meter route from the same exit area to the department store’s B2 entrance. These distances help explain why “connected to the station” still involves a walk. At a junction, follow the building name rather than simply continuing with the largest group of shoppers. IFC’s L2 and Hyundai’s B2 are different places, and an escalator in one building won’t take you to a store in the other. For a step-free route, use elevator signs rather than assuming that every moving-walkway or escalator route is suitable. In pleasant weather, the street-level approach lets you see the financial district’s towers. Hyundai also lists an approach from Yeouido Exit 4 toward its main entrance. The broad roads make designated crossings important, even when the building seems close. Yeouinaru Station is another option when you’re combining shopping with the river, but it isn’t the station used for the underground mall connection.

For a first visit, three levels give a useful introduction. B2, called Creative Ground, is the starting point for contemporary fashion and lifestyle browsing. B1, Tasty Seoul, is the food-hall level. On 5F, Sounds Forest brings trees and planting into the upper part of the building. Go directly to the part that interests you most, then work your way toward the others. If you like stationery, Point of View on B2 gives you a concrete place to start: pens, pencils, paper, and small objects, with testers for trying selected products. Upstairs, The Hyundai Souvenir on 5F carries Korean design gifts drawing on traditional motifs. These are useful alternatives to buying another bulky souvenir just because you have time to browse. A notebook or carefully chosen small object can fit comfortably into the rest of your trip. At Sounds Forest, take time to appreciate how the planted area sits within the surrounding retail floors. You can enjoy the setting without turning the visit into an all-day shopping exercise. Seasonal installations may use a separate entry or reservation system, however, so a holiday display seen online is a reason to check that particular event, not a permanent feature to expect year-round. The sixth floor brings restaurants and the ALT.1 exhibition space. An exhibition can give the visit more focus if its subject appeals to you; its ticket and admission conditions are separate from entering the store. For shops and floors, use the current department-store directory. Pop-ups are temporary by definition, while the floor plan gives you a more dependable starting point.

IFC labels its principal shopping levels L1, L2, and L3. These are the mall’s belowground levels, not three floors above the street. L2 is the key landmark for returning toward the subway. The North and South atriums also give more precise meeting points than “near the escalator.” The current directory includes stores such as Apple, COS, and MUJI, alongside a wide selection of fashion and beauty retailers. YP Books is on L2, and CGV is on L3. If you’re considering a movie, look at the language and subtitle information for the specific screening before buying a ticket. A cinema stop is most useful when the film itself interests you, rather than merely filling time between shops. IFC’s practical facilities can make a long afternoon easier. Its official amenities page lists automated storage lockers on L1, plus customer service and a baby-care lounge on L3. Check locker size and availability before planning around a suitcase. For a family meeting point or help locating a shop, the service center is more reliable than trying to describe a storefront over the phone.

Make Room for One Good Meal

At The Hyundai Seoul, decide whether you want food-hall browsing or a seated restaurant meal. B1 works well for comparing displays and choosing a snack; the sixth-floor restaurants give you a clearer destination for lunch or dinner. If you want Korean food with an identifiable menu, the official dining guide lists Naui Gaya (나의 가야) for bulgogi and hot-pot dishes. Sangchunjae (상춘재) offers options such as abalone pot rice and seafood stew paired with grilled mackerel. These give you something specific to look for rather than joining the first long line. IFC’s L3 concentrates many dining options and includes Culinary Square by Ourhome, useful when people in your group want different dishes. Look at the ordering and seating arrangement before splitting up. For either building, allow the meal its own time instead of treating it as a quick gap between stores. Operating information checked October 12, 2026 lists IFC’s general mall hours as 10 a.m.–10 p.m., with different hours possible for individual businesses. The Hyundai Seoul has its own calendar, and restaurant hours can extend beyond the shopping floors. Check the store’s daily schedule if you’re arriving late; don’t assume the two buildings close together.

The river is a welcome change after hours of bright interiors. Head toward Yeouinaru and the access points for Yeouido Hangang Park, where the view opens beyond the office towers. The malls aren’t inside the park, so leave time for the street-level walk and crossings rather than expecting a riverfront door. A short walk or a few minutes on the lawn is enough to round out a shopping visit. If you prefer trees and garden paths, choose inland Yeouido Park instead. It’s a different park, and you don’t have to cover both to make the trip worthwhile. Keep refrigerated desserts or heavy purchases for the end if you’re planning an outdoor stop. Otherwise, give yourself permission to finish with dinner and return through the station connection. The appeal here is having a clear choice of interesting indoor spaces, with the river available when the day allows it.
